New sketches of Pininfarina's first car revealed ahead of the concept that will make its debut at the Monterey Car Week in August.
Things at Automobili Pininfarina are moving just as fast as its cars will be. In just three months since the announcement about Pininfarina making its own cars was made, it has now published more design sketches of its first offering, the PF0 hypercar, which is all set to make its debut in concept form at the 2018 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, during Monterey Car Week in August 2018.
As can be seen from these new sketches, the Pininfarina PF0 features a slinky, futuristic design, with the wheels and fenders pushed to the corners and protruding from the bodywork. The windscreen rake and the bonnet slope are contained stylistically in one line. Automobili Pininfarina chief designer Luca Borgogno was tasked with the job of penning a design that doesn’t stray from the sensual, flowing and brilliantly proportioned Pininfarina ethos.
Pininfarina has stated that the PF0 will have a 0-100kph time of "under 2 seconds", a top speed of well over 400kph and a potential real-world range of over 480km. For the PF0's electric powertrain, Pininfarina is partnering with Croatian electric supercar maker and electric component and system supplier Rimac, which is set to develop the modular underpinnings for the PF0.
Pininfarina also announced its plans to bring on board Mahindra's Formula E racing driver Nick Heidfeld. Heidfeld will be involved in the development of the PF0. Additionally, Pininfarina, having been acquired by Mahindra in 2015, will receive some technical input from Mahindra’s Formula E team concerning the PF0's powertrain – under the watch of newly-appointed CEO Michael Perschke. The rest of the coachbuilder's board has been handpicked from across the industry – including Jaguar Land Rover, Volvo, Bugatti and McLaren.
Set to go on sale in "late-2020", the Pininfarina PF0 will have a limited production run of 75-90 cars, which will give the model some exclusivity.
