12th Jan 2018 5:13 pm

The price for the limited edition model is on-road Chennai; only 500 units will be sold online.

Royal Enfield has launched the Himalayan Sleet limited edition with the ‘Explorer’ kit at an introductory price of Rs 2.12 lakh (on-road, Chennai). The motorcycle is limited to 500 units and will only be sold online. Registrations are open online from January 12-30, after which the sale will go live on January 30. The first 500 registered users who pay the booking amount of Rs 5,000 on January 30 will be able to purchase the motorcycle.

The new colour scheme features an angular camouflage pattern on matte-grey panels and looks to be inspired from the rocky snow-covered Himalayan terrain. The new Himalayan Sleet will come pre-fitted with the Explorer kit which consists of aluminium panniers, pannier-mounting rails and aluminium handlebar with a cross brace. The Explorer kit will go on sale after January 30, which is when Royal Enfield will announce its prices.

The company has also recently updated its Himalayan to correct the previous bike’s reputation for low reliability. The biggest change on the updated Himalayan is that it now uses a fuel-injection system instead of a carburettor; the company has done this in order to meet BS-IV norms. The bike has also undergone other small changes, like the addition of a small metal guard on the oil cooler and matte-black powder coating for the fuel tank cap, and bar-end weights and luggage mounts below the rear seat.

Royal Enfield had re-introduced the updated Himalayan last year for Rs 1.65 lakh, which has now been revised to Rs 1.67 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). With a price of Rs 2.12 lakh (on-road, Chennai), the Sleet is priced at Rs 28,000 higher than the standard Himalayan which costs Rs 1.84 lakh (on-road, Chennai).
