California Biker Profile. Male, Old, Married And Moneyed. Only Half Of Those With A Motorcycle License Ride… New statistics prepared by the Motorcycle Industry Council show the median age of California motorcycle owners was 45 years old in 2012 – having risen from 33 years in 1990, 38 years in 1998 and 41 years in 2009. Median income for California motorcyclists was $64,130 in 2012, more than double what it was in 1990. More than 60% reported their annual household incomes at over $50,000, with almost 20% reporting incomes of over $100,000. Almost three quarters of them were employed. About 14% were retired. 1.7 million Californians currently hold licenses to operate motorcycles. But there are only 847,937 motorycles currently registered in the state. That means more than half the people licensed to ride motorcycles in California may not be riding at all. Depressing? Or an opportunity for motorcycle manufacturers?

Thousands ride without the motorcycle endorsement, don’t they count? Illegal aliens are counted!
Rodent made again a wrong statement. Illegal Aliens can’t obtain a California driver license. Any individual must prove first that he is a legal resident of California with business visa, green card, US passport
Foster you should get educated
Jerry Brown signed a law giving ILLEGALS drivers licenses
What% did the average american’s income rise in in that 22 year window?
Wow! That is a HUGE price drop on the Brammo bikes. I don’t see any description of what makes the Empulse and EmpulseR different (other than $2000 MSRP) though. Maybe I missed it. Unreal value for anyone looking for a daily local commuter sportbike.
The upward shift in demographics is terrible new for Hd. Remember, however that the median is the 50th percentile of the distribution. I would also look at the mean or average age for a more complete picture.. I would also look at the study design which may or may not have included obvious dirt bikes. which would creat an apples/orange comparison
In actual fact the demographic shift is obvious —-just attend any meet or Daytond
Doc just look at sales over the last 7 years of geezer glides over dynas and softail’s
Regarding the EagleRider story, I was surprised during an August tour of the west by the number of European riders I met on the road. The majority had Florida plates. Of course, most bikes were HD, but I did meet a guy on an Indian.
